“When I say Supa, you say Fest, SUPA….”
I think I heard that statement from the DJ about 50 times throughout Supafest, to the point it just became annoying, it was becoming one of those days. With the kind of stellar lineup of hip-hop performers not seen in Australia before, Supafest was billed as Australia’s biggest Urban music party. And it was hard to argue, a sellout crowd at ANZ Stadium turned up to see legendary stars like Snoop Dogg, Nelly and T Pain perform and from the noise and smiles, they weren’t disappointed. But I was. Sure, there were some highlights, T Pain was infectiously energetic, and Bow Wow was like a rubber ball on stage, yet for all that, Nelly didn’t sound so good (bad mixing? Acoustics?) and many of the artists sets seemed very short in comparison to other festivals. Yet for all of my perceptions about the quality of the show, the crowd seemed to lap it up, EVERYONE seemed to be having a good time, hats were on sideways and the whole ‘Eastside/Westside’ hand signals were everywhere to be seen! Maybe it’s me, maybe I’m old, maybe I just dont get it. Whatever the answer, at least my photos turned out well!
